Automotive Wood I Carbon Fibre | Other Luxury & Novelty Materials

Specialist Coatings

Meet your design and specification requirements from a single source.

From stains, patinas, sealers and high build basecoats to PUR and Open-Pore systems, we have a proven track record in developing and manufacturing specialist coatings for numerous well-known OEMs, as well as supporting their tier suppliers in Europe, Asia and North America.

We offer complete coating solutions for the most challenging design ideas whether they are to be used over traditionally luxurious materials, such as wood and lightweight carbon fibre, or on novel substrates that bring the feel and colour of earthy materials into the cabin environment, such as cork and crashed stone.

What is more is that FCS experts can assist our customers in areas of veneer selection, component construction and process improvement, as well as providing product and application training wherever needed.

High Build Basecoat - for carbon fibre

Woven for Performance. Coated to Perfection.

Developed to perfectly complement the sporty and sophisticated style of carbon fibre components, our High-Build Basecoat (in combination with FCS Sealers) smooths the non-uniform structure of the natural or pre-impregnated carbon fibre weaves and creates a visually perfect deep surface that maximises the natural characteristics of the material.

Formulated to help reduce process steps without compromising on finish quality.

Once applied wet-on-wet to the desired film thickness, and sanded down for the final clearcoat application, FCS High Build Basecoat is oven cured for a short duration. This allows the product to form a high-clarity protective layer over carbon fibre, and eliminates the undesired influence of substrate irregularities that may ultimately lead to pores, pits and pinholes. Together with our clear or pigmented lacquers, carbon fibre trim can be coated to perfection in gloss, satin or matt finishes for both interior and exterior applications.

High Build System for Carbon Fibre - Basics

Diagram showing layers of a coating system for high gloss, satin, or matte appearance. The top layer is FCS Clearcoats, which can be over-coated with finishing material. Below is a layer providing strong vertical hold with 50-100 micrometers of dry film thickness, applied wet-on-wet without sanding. The bottom layer is an FCS Sealer, made from natural or pre-impregnated carbon fiber. The diagram includes the company's website and slogans.

A touch closer to the beauty of natural wood

Designed to meet strict OEM tests and existing environmental regulations, FCS Open Pore Systems offer a flawless finish on wood trim whilst maximising the sense of natural wood feel.

In addition to TX free, high solids solventborne versions, we also offer a Waterbased Open-Pore Topcoat - an ideal solution for those looking for an ultra low VOC system.

Cured using a conventional industrial oven and available in various gloss levels, FCS Open Pore systems ensure the long-term gloss stability of the coated components, as well as providing a protective layer against UV rays, daily wear, scratches and cleaning agents.

Depending on your project and production line requirements, we can offer the following product types;

  • Solventborne, TX Free, High Solids

  • Dual Cure Solventborne - for ultimate scratch resistance

  • Waterbased, ultra low VOC
